Northwest Georgia Housing Authority Announces Daycare Closings
Rome, Georgia - February 10, 2025
Due to financial challenges the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority (NWGHA) has made the difficult decision to close its childcare facilities, Rome Children's Academy and Rockmart Children's Academy effective May 31, 2025.
"We are deeply disappointed that we have been unable to secure the additional funding necessary to keep our facilities open. Our teachers and staff have been exceptionally skilled and enthusiastic about their ability to provide their services, and we recognize how difficult these closures will be for them and the families served." said Justin Jones, CEO.
The closing affects approximately one hundred children, 10 percent are resident families of NWGHA. Those resident families that qualify for the Family Self-Sufficiency program may qualify for other childcare assistance.
The twenty-three staff members affected by the closing of the day-cares will receive assistance in finding other employment opportunities and severance pay for those employed over a year.
NWGHA purposes are Quality Homes, Strong Families, and Thriving Communities.
